What Am I Paying for?

Super Bills. What are they and how do they work

Super Bills in simple terms are receipts provided by your counselor or therapist to submit to your insurance company for refund for services rendedred by a clinician or professional.

I often get calls from consumers looking for services and as if I accept insurance. I tell them I don't but I will provide Super bills. Many folks don't know what that is or understand what a super bill is. I am posting the definition of super billing to help those that are seeking help for services and have questions about using their services.

A superbill shows an itemized list of services that you have received from an out-of-network provider. It’s like a detailed invoice or receipt. A therapist may provide you with a superbill — a specific document required by an insurance company — that allows you to seek reimbursement for an out-of-network provider

A superbill is a document that shows a list of services you received from a healthcare provider.

You may need to submit a superbill to your insurance company to receive reimbursement for services.

Talk to your therapist and insurance provider about the process for receiving and submitting a superbill.

R.K. Counseling LLC

A Clinical Hardware Store of Treatment

A metaphorical reference for treatment tools for building.

If you have a project that requires the proper tools, fittings, washers, wireless connectors, fasteners, nuts, bolts, screws, and paints, you go to a hardware store to get what you need. Lowe’s, Home Depot, True Value, etc. Projects have plans, blueprints, schematics to help you build it to its proper and expected dynamics or logistics.

R.K. Counseling LLC works similarly in the same way. I am a tool supplier to help the holistic project of healing, rebuilding, and helping you help yourself to bring about a better version of you using a plan, a schematic of the mind and soul. My job is giving you your tools, fasteners, nuts, bolts and screws to build yourself into the proper, healthier, desired outcome.

What my job is NOT, is crawling around in your head. My job is actually, and realistically to help the person discover the broken pieces. To either rebuild them or scrap them, heal the wound, and replace it with sound, common sense, applicable fundamentals and create redirection into empowerment, confidence, and a renewed dignity.

I am a clinician that listens, identifies, and helps you organize confusion, conflict, pain, and provides guidance out of a dark and almost impossible world of addiction, anger, resentment, and struggle. I am a proverbial hardware store for the things you need for your project.

Give me a call. No project is too big. If you suffer from addiction, alcohol, anger issues, conflict resolution with your partner, come by, call for an appointment, and I will sit down and listen so that together we can plan the best way to create a better version of you.

ANGER MANAGEMENT And how it affects everything in your life.

It has been my experience as a man that suffered from anger management issues that it will effect everything from simple enjoyment of having a conversation in public to communicating with your spouse, partner, employer, your children, professional relationships, and so many other examples not mentioned.

Anger, anxiety, frustration, irritability, all of these things are distractors from enjoying your life as you define it. One of the key things I inform clients about is learning how to NOT have expectations

The Definition, Anger management, identifies and assesses behaviors, attitudes, and coping skills that can be destructive to self or relationships et al. It can help people identify stressors.

People learn steps to help them remain rational and reasonable in anger management. They may then handle tense situations in a constructive, positive way. The purpose of anger management is to help a person identify cause and effects of anger. It reduces the emotional and physical reaction that anger can cause. It is generally impossible to avoid all people and settings that incite anger. But a person may learn to control reactions and respond in a rational manner that can be socially, professionally, and emotionally accepted especially in family and personal relationships.

Learning to have control over rational and irrational floods of emotions, reactionary situations, and uncomfortable life events is empowering, gratifying, and surreal. When life events such as employment, loss, internal conflicts, relationships, or simply dealing with the public and its ever-changing evolution disrupts life, having personal management of self and being able to choose how you react can and will be invaluable.

R.K. Counseling LLC, Ken Roberson LCDC, provides the tools, therapy, and support to help you identify rational thinking, pros and cons of reactionary vs reasonable outcomes. “Play the tape” is not new to the world. Knowing how to play the tape, well…that is quite something else. R.K. Counseling will provide practical, sensible, and rational instruction on how that tape plays, what to look for, and empower the individual to make their own choices on with foreseeable outcome through therapy, education, and discussion.

12/29/22Alcohol Abuse

What is alcohol abuse or clinically referred to as Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD)?

“What is the definition of being alcoholic?"

It describes a strong, often uncontrollable, desire to drink. Although it isn't a term that is used anymore as part of medical care, some people who are recovering from dependence still use the term 'alcoholic' to describe themselves. Alcoholism is also known as alcohol addiction, alcohol misuse or alcohol dependence.

“Once an alcoholic always an alcoholic”

Lets explore this with practicality and common sense. The definition of an alcoholic has been stated above in academic terms. In layman terms, it is simple. Being an alcoholic means having a dependence yes, however, alcoholism is a brain disease, and it is often inherited. Genetics and DNA experts’ state...

“Alcohol use disorder (AUD) often seems to run in families, and we may hear about scientific studies of an “alcoholism gene.” Genetics certainly influence our likelihood of developing AUD, but the story isn't so simple. Research shows that genes are responsible for about half of the risk for AUD.”

Does this mean you are going to be an alcoholic for the rest of your life? The answer is NO. Genetics simply mean the probability of being dependent on alcohol is substantially increased and is important to know your family history, background, and most importantly, learning about your own personal true nature through life experiences and becoming educated on prevention to include being in control of your own personal decisions.

R.K. Counseling provided a variety of different pathways to educate the individual on how to stay sober, how to approach each individuals struggle and seek out practical, sensible, and proven solutions. Alcohol use disorder is not prejudice and even though it affects individuals in different ways, the outcome is generally the same without intervention or education.

R.K. Counseling is not a strictly 12 step counseling. Years of counseling experience, interaction, facing my own recovery path has taught me there are numerous choices and paths that can lead to recovery. The conventional wisdom in society is “Go to meetings, do the steps, pray to your higher power”

Ken Roberson LCDC recognizes that this is not necessarily flawed, but it does not apply to everyone. There are too many conflicts of interest, beliefs, understandings, and misconceptions or guidance. Individualized means crafting treatment plans to customize your needs, your paths, your goals.

R.K. Counseling uses many options, choices, and pathways for the individual looking to simply find that peace and happiness in addition to having a life without so much chaos. Sessions with Ken are about education, solution focused outcomes. Treatment on a private level is a marathon and not a sprint. It took a minute to get where you are, it will take a couple of minutes to return from the “crazy” and out of control world the individual has found themselves in.

Ken is a recovering alcoholic, substance abuse addict. Ken will be available by text before and after treatment sessions when you are feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed, or desperate. He knows what the demons look like and how to deal with them. See the reviews on Google for confirmation.

tSUBSTANCE USE DISORDER (SUD)

What is substance use disorder? Have you ever been called a dope fine, pot head, rock star, or any other degrading and discouraging names mocking or making you feel like you are not a human being?

Substance use disorders occur when the recurrent use of alcohol and/or drugs causes clinically significant impairment, including health problems, disability, and failure to meet major responsibilities at work, school, or home.

In layman terms, it means you are psychologically or physically dependent on a drug or drugs of choice (DOC)

“The substance is often taken in larger amounts or over a longer period than intended. There is a persistent desire or unsuccessful efforts to cut down or control substance use. A great deal of time is spent in activities necessary to obtain the substance, use the substance, or recover from its effects.” (DSM IV)

To put it in terms that are commonly referred to commonly in society. An individual may start out innocently experimenting with any drug of choice. Generally introduced as “Hey, have you ever…? I’ve got a little…” (fill in the blank) In extreme cases, some individuals are born into this environment and have been doomed to a life of using because “it seemed normal” R.K. Counseling understands and empathizes with this. Generally speaking, this is a sad and unfortunate reality. However, it is not a death sentence if the user wants and seeks help to change their course of life.

Marriage, lucrative employment, life goals, serenity and peace.

More often than not, the addict, user, participant, found out about it from friends, college, work environment, at a party etc. “It seemed like a good idea at the time” is often the circumstance. Whether is was for occupational performance, academic achievement (cramming), or the very popular and misinformed “sex is better” idea.As a recovering addict myself, I have learned in hindsight, it was never a good idea.

The real question an individual should ask themselves if they are struggling with any legal or illicit substance is “What is more important?” Is it relationships, family, success, achieving personal goals, health. As an addict, I came to realize that all the above are most important. We don’t realize as users, that we are inflicting long term health issues on our body, brain, teeth, and thinking processes. Each individual has their own ideas and perceptions of what is important to them.

R.K. Counseling is not a strictly 12 step counseling. Years of counseling experience, interaction, facing my own recovery path has taught me there are numerous choices and paths that can lead to recovery. The conventional wisdom in society is “Go to meetings, do the steps, pray to your higher power”

Ken is in recovery from stimulant use (cocaine, methamphetamines, Ice, for 18 yrs. and counting)

This is me saying not only can I identify with this disease, I have learned over almost 2 decades how to navigate, seek healthy solutions for individualized recovery and recognize that every individual is affected differently however having a common goal. Stop using, find help, learn how to be happy again and find joy in life without dealing with drugs as a go to when I want to feel different or joy.
